With a degree in Chemistry from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) and a Master’s degree in Business Management, Executive MBA from IE Business School, Madrid (Spain), José Luis has over 17 years’ experience in management and independent reviews of corporate responsibility with third parties.
He was appointed partner at KPMG in 2008 and is the Spokesperson for the firm on Twitter and coordinator of the www.kpmgresponsabilidadempresarial.es blog.
He was previously Director of the Red Cross’ Central Department, Internal Auditor at National Westminster Bank and Director of the NatWest España, Teneo and Entorno foundations. From 1995 to 2003 he was Secretary of the National Committee for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
José Luis has been an associate professor at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He currently lectures in various management, governance and corporate responsibility Masters Degrees at IE Business School, ESADE and Club Español de la Energía. In addition, he is director of the GRI Certified training programme for Spain and the environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) training programme for financial analysts at IEAF.
He has been an expert consultant or member of various groups and committees at the European Commission, European Parliament, United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Global Compact, Spanish Ministries for Science and Technology and the Environment and the Spanish Institute of Registered Auditors. He is currently a consultant for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, United Nations and Global Reporting Initiative, overseeing the Spanish version of the latter’s reporting guidelines since 2000.
José Luis is the author of a number of publications on social responsibility, ethics and human rights.
In 2001 he was awarded the Business Values Award.
